We're Moving on Up - Part One

First floor down, second floor to go...

There are some things that we will have to repeat for any layer that we do.  We will refer back to earlier blog posts and simply lather, rinse, repeat.

In addition, there are other new decisions to make when adding a second floor, which we need to discuss.

First, take a look at the floor plan you chose earlier.  I chose this one.

Look at your floor plan and decide if you are going to face the second floor in the classic dollhouse pose. (in the same direction). Or, you might decide to be like me and go perpendicular.

Compare the floor plan you chose to your Lego-fied first floor.  Is it about the same? If not, think about what changes you will need to make to your second floor to accommodate any differences.

Second, you need to decide if you will have a balcony and, if so, where will it be.  (You are going to need a second door.)

Third, you will need to think about a way to get your peeps upstairs.

Just as we did on the first floor, we need to start with a strong base.  This will be the ceiling for the first floor and the walking surface for the second floor.

I would like to suggest that you use one layer of base pieces and then, for the second layer, use colors for carpet, hard wood flooring, or rugs. Like this:

This way the base is not too heavy and does not weigh down the first floor it is siting on top of.

Since it is the first floor's ceiling, I would like to suggest that you use the same color base pieces (just like a ceiling would look.)

Again, remember to stagger the pieces for stability.

Mine looks like this:

The red is supposed to be a rug - do you think it looks like one?

Please take note that I have NOT put a second layer on the first row of bumpies. This is because we need to put walls in that space.

Well - that is it for today.  We will continue on the second floor tomorrow.
