On Solid Ground

Welcome Back!

Our twenty minutes today will be focused on the foundation.  It is important that you first calculate how big you want your house to be.  You want to look at two different things:

1.) What type of foundation you would like to use.(Sheet or Tile Style)
2.) How you are going to assemble it to make sure it is strong enough to hold your house and (maybe) transport it.

TYPES of Foundations
Lego makes a couple of different types of sheets that can be used as a foundation.  One is a large thin sheet style like this:

These are available in large sheets, which is a bonus when building a house, but they are quite flimsy and you can only attach other Lego's to the top (bumpy) side.  This might be a good way to go if the house will be stationery.

You could also use plates or tiles (not sure what they are officially called.) They look like this:

These are sturdy and not flexible.  They come in a multitude of sizes, though none will be large enough for the house.  You can also use both sides on these pieces. I would suggest that you make your base two layers thick and stagger the sizes and meeting points, for added stability.  Here is an example:

Those are the most common types of bases that almost everyone will have available.  However, if you are like me, you will have a bunch of random large pieces from different sets that might serve as a unique base.

I found these awesome pieces in my bucket:

They are thick and sturdy AND they have green (for grass) and gray (for the house).

They fit together like a puzzle and (I think) will be the perfect size for my house.

Now...
All you need to do, is decide how large you want your house to be and put together a base that will fit that size.

I have decided that I would like to make my house 30 by 60 pegs.  That is not including the yard.

These are the pieces I found for the outside! (I am so excited to get this completed and be able to play with it!

A road piece!! How awesome is that!  (Too bad there was only one  :(

Tomorrow we will begin the process of building the house.  That part will take a few days so, strap on your seat belts.

Until Tomorrow...
